Vita Creativa : Creative Life
From the artist: “This series of works is inspired by the magnificent nature that we are immersed in on Whidbey Island. My studio looks out onto the sparkling waters of the Puget Sound, kissed by the morning sun, blushed by the rosy dawn. The sea mist and fog bring depth and mystery to my experiences. Snow peaked mountains skirt my world. Starlit skies grace the arc above me.
The title of this series came about by me wondering what lives beneath the surface of the water, on the hills, in the skies. This appreciation was amplified when a dear friend, now gone, could no longer see the beauty with her eyes. So, I painted the majestic scenes and wrote poetry about it to read to her.
With each brush stroke I invoke peace.
The Fairies and Mermaids of Kristio's Art Studio: Polka-dot Land
The Mermaids; Fairies of the Sea, are one of-a-kind spirited beings. They are hand sculpted from non- toxic Model Magic, hand painted and dressed with moss, stars, wool, tulle and beads. The driftwood forms dance into my hands as dolphins, fish, pups. In a heart-centered way, I work to bring the love, beauty and magic I experience into my artworks, so that others may feel this joy and whimsy too.
With every twist of wire, brush stroke of paint, sprinkling of fairy dust, I invoke: Peace. Love. Light.
One thousand times one thousand. I invite you to explore the display in person and immerse yourself in whimsy and creativity. Represented here is the generosity of Maureen Murphy of Bayview Farm and Garden, in loaning me the graceful Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar, the evergreens from Meerkerk Gardens, Whidbey's peaceful woodland garden, devas from the fairy world, and a sweet mermaid riding her dolphin in the swift flowing waters. There are multi-dimensions here too....gaze into the globes, reflect with the portal of star lit waters. Wonderous. Creativity is the way to peace. Love to all.
You can find this imaginal realm at BLISS Day Spa through the month of December.
Inspired by the mermaid commissioned last March 2015, I have sculpted a collection of sea beings- riding seal pups, blue fish, dolphins made from found driftwood.
The exhibit inspires you to delve into a few moments of whimsy and fun viewing my spirited beings in their under-the-sea-diorama and then check out a few books on mermaids, fairies and related fun subjects from the library.
Fun for children of all ages.
The Freeland Library is located at 5495 Harbor Avenue, Freeland WA.
It is day 4 of my five days of art adventure postings.
Today I am sharing a recent sculpture I refer to as a spirited creature. She is a mermaid who was made on commission for a woman whose friend is a deep sea diver.
I found a piece of driftwood on the beach which immediately looked like a seahorse to me. I also gathered a few shells, rocks and sea gifts to integrate.
My Mermaid is en route to Hawaii as I type, to celebrate the birthday of the sea diver with her close friends. Happy birthday! This creation, a new form for me, is inspiring me to make more of them, as I truly enjoyed creating the sea scape around the mermaid in addition to the seahorse's tail and the mermaid herself.
In a few days, I will post a few of my other spirited creatures. I infuse them all with joy and love and in turn, they gift these back to me and you. I'd love to sculpt one for your special gift or occasion!
A bakers' dozen of my hand-sculpted fairies flew south to Bliss in Langley this week in preparation for the Holidays. The full scene will be up by November 26th.
More information will be forthcoming.
Off to work in my studio now!
